The beginning of our Lenten Journey together…
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Lent is a significant season in the year for Christians – a time of solemnity and self-reflection. These 40 days are set aside to praise and worship the Lord; to read the Bible more, and to pray more often.
It is my hope and prayer that, as we did last year, we will journey through the six weeks of Lent and then Holy Week together.
Lent offers us an important opportunity to deepen our discipleship and to find a greater intimacy with God, which is the blessing. During Lent, across all of our churches, there will be space and time planned to guide our times of personal prayer and reflection. By taking this time we open ourselves up to finding ways of telling the Good News of Jesus Christ to others.
Over the season of Lent there are opportunities to listen to guests speak into The Beatitudes for us during our Lent Talks.
Following our Lent Talks series there will be a short two week course, also based upon The Beatitudes and to find out how we can live them out in our own lives.
The ‘Lent’ pages on our website will provide reflections and prayers over the 40 days, again based upon The Beatitudes. Please see below for details of all that is going on our churches over the Lent Season.
In our churches, the first day of Lent is Ash Wednesday. We have a service at 7pm in Devoran Church. Ash will be used to mark a cross on the forehead of the congregation, as a sign of penitence and mortality. All welcome.
I am looking forward to journeying through the Lenten Season with you all. Revd Karen

The Beatitudes are complex. They are hard to live out. But they are also very beautiful. They describe what it means to live by a set of standards, callings and attitudes that go way beyond the observation of rules or the keeping of the law. This is what life looks like when you are truly Christ-like.
During Lent this year The Waterside Churches will be hosting a series of talks from speakers on the Beatitudes and how we can relate them to our lives as Christians in our churches, in our wider communities and in the world. How do we take the Beatitudes into our hearts and minds and live them out in our own contexts?
Our Lent Talks will take place in The Devoran Parish Centre at 2pm and last for one hour. Each talk will last 45 minutes, followed by a question and answer session. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
